Just a few things to update everyone on:
This year there have been several Member Accidents/Illnesses at the Riu. At least two broken hips, a broken foot, falls, heart attacks, etc… Because I was there for the most recent accident I think this is a good time to address safety.
- The pool is always very full. Very full means lots of Suntan lotion and oils not to mentioned spilled drinks. Please be careful getting in and out of the Pool and just being in an oil slick environment.
- The floors in the units get wet immediately when a door is left open. The tile becomes slick. Throw down a towel if your floor is wet. Please do not risk slipping. We bring a small rubber backed rug to keep at our beach door. This helps when entering.
- The first and second floor hallways are often wet. Make sure to watch where you are walking.
- Overall the entire Riu property is tough to navigate. There is an abundance of tile, water, stairs, ramps, uneven surfaces. Hold on to the rails and pick the path of least danger.
- Make sure not to spray Suntan lotion in your timeshare unit. The overspray gets on the tile and becomes slippery.
Consider purchasing Medical Evacuation Insurance-not what the airlines sell but a plan that will allow you to decided if you should be flown out for medical treatment. Many of us think American Express or Airline Insurance will pay to get us out. This only works in the case of a true Medical emergency. If the Aruba Doctors do not consider your injury or illness a Medical Emergency-it is not covered. The average cost to be flown out is $35,0000.
As we all age, this is something we must consider.
Last but not least-during the renovation many phones did not have a phone guide put back. If you need to call the operator please dial 9.
- Unique Sports of Aruba-the Dive Shop in the building at the alley has moved out. Their lease was up and temporarily they are operating under an umbrella on the beach.
- This week Dunkin Donuts on the DePalm Pier will close forever. No more morning coffee for us! Bugaloe is taking over the space.
Please report any problems with your unit immediately to Karina or the Front Desk. Let’s all do our part to stay on top of maintenance.
If you buy any type of Meal Plan other than the 6/7 day plan the Riu Antillas is not included. So…if you buy a one day All Inclusive it is only usable at the Riu Palace.
Currently when you buy a 7 day package, they charge you for 6 and give you the 7th day free.
Remember to use the online form for Embarkation/Debarkation at https://edcardaruba.aw/ By using this you will not have to fill out the form once you are on the Airplane. They may offer you the form but if you do it online it is not necessary to do it again. The good news is you can update for each trip so no starting over each time. Don’t choose Timeshare under Place of Stay. Choose Hotel and then type Riu. The Riu Palace will come up.
That’s all for this trip!
